The Joshua Tree Inn and Motel is an enchanting place. This old motel, built in 1950, was a travelers home and a sanctuary to many musicians such as The Rolling Stones, Donovan, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons. In the 60’s it wasn’t unusual that you would hear most of the rooms overflowing the airwaves with otherworldly tunes. When my girlfriend and I travel to new destinations we always try to find interesting and unconventional places. As I was scoping the web I stumbled across this gem of a motel. One thing about this lodge that caught my eye was the fact that Gram Parsons, a musical pioneer, had died there. Gram, the king of “Cosmic American Music” paved the way for many musicians. Country, rock n roll, blues, folk, he was all of that. He left an impact on the world through his musical projects such as The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and his various solo productions, some of which featured Emmylou. To this day his legacy lives on and his spirit resides in room 8.
