Every year The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival takes place in Golden Gate Park. Personally, this is my absolute favorite weekend of the year in San Francisco. It’s a weekend where I can go back in time to my true generation, the 1960s and 70s. Being the Aquarius that I am, I’m an old soul and these few days allow me to channel my inner flower child. My dad was a music lover and big bluegrass fan. He taught me everything I know about music and the way to appreciating all types of genres. Taking me at a young age, I’ve been going to concerts for a very long time. He started taking me to Hardly Strictly back when it first started, too. This year was my 10th year going! I’ve seen some killer sets over the years. Elvis Costello, Randy Newman, Indigo Girls, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Joan Baez, Les Claypool’s Duo De Twang, Broken Social Scene, Buckethead, Chris Isaak and of course the queen herself, who always closes the weekend, Emmylou Harris. Plus, many many more! This year was a treat for me since my sister was able to join our crew (she’s been away at college the past 4 years). Not only did I have my whole crew there and the good vibes were flowin’, the weather was on another level. Talk about an indian summer! It was in the high 80s all week long! But honestly, I don’t remember a time where it wasn’t amazing out during Bluegrass. Warren Hellman chose a good weekend!
